Description of Significance THE PATTERSON HOSPITAL IN DUNCAN, OKLAHOMA IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES UNDER CRITERION A FOR ITS ASSOCIATION WITH THE EARLY HEALTH CARE HISTORY OF THE COMMUNITY. CONSTRUCTED IN 1928 BY DR. JAMES PATTERSON, THE FACILITY WAS THE FIRST "MODERN" HOSPITAL IN THIS SOUTH CENTRAL OKLAHOMA CITY. BUILT WITH MORE THAN SIXTY ROOMS, FIFTY OF WHICH WERE FOR PATIENTS, THE BUILDING INCLUDED TWO OPERATING ROOMS, AND X-RAY LABORATORY, AND A KITCHEN. THE LOWER FLOOR (BASEMENT) PROVIDED A HOME FOR NURSES AND SERVED AS A TRAINING SCHOOL. THE HOSPITAL CONTINUED IN OPERATION UNTIL 1959. LISTED ON THE NATIONAL REGISTER 12/07/1995.
